What is Abortion?

The term "abortion" refers to any premature expulsion of a human fetus, whether naturally spontaneous, as in a miscarriage, or artificially induced, as in a surgical or chemical abortion.  Today, the most common usage of the term abortion applies to artificially induced abortion.  Various  abortion techniques used to destroy a human fetus can be categorized under either surgical or chemical abortions.  Chemical techniques are often, but not always, performed in the first trimester.  Surgical techniques are typically performed during the second and third trimester.*

Abortion History

Prior to the U.S. Supreme Court decision on abortion on January 22, 1973 Kentucky law prohibited abortion except to save the life of the mother, as did most other states.  When the Roe vs. Wade and Doe vs. Bolton decisions were handed down, all state laws were overturned and abortion became legal for the full nine months of a woman's pregnancy.

This 7-2 decision has caused the destruction of more than 47,000,000 pre-born babies as well as maternal deaths in many instances and physical and mental repercussions to untold numbers of women nationally.
